STRATEGY

Our Strategy

Since our founding in 2018, AMPLIFY Girls has generated opportunities and evidence designed to build agency in adolescent girls in Africa and to uplift the community-driven organizations (CDOs) that support them.

AMPLIFY Girls was born in a development landscape in which global trends favored investing in proximate leaders, funders showed budding interest in locally-rooted organizations, and a growing understanding of community-driven impact in girls' programming could be observed. Our initial vision reflected our desire to push these narratives to higher visibility and action.

However, eight years later, the landscape has changed. Ever-shifting funder priorities have moved resources away from early-stage organizations and toward advocacy and movement support as well as humanitarian response.

Global shifts driven by increasing nationalism and governments with anti-aid agendas have reduced the total available support to community-driven organizations. This is worse still, for CDOs focused on girls, which receive far less than 1% of total global humanitarian aid each year.

The ecosystem for adolescent girls' support has become crowded with new players, while simultaneously, the democratization of our AGAS portal has diminished our first-mover advantage. Most concerning, we've seen only marginal growth in the capacity of CDOs supported by AMPLIFY Girls to steadily access vital funding and provide sufficient support to adolescent girls, forcing us to rethink our approach.
